SmartLipo
is one among a range of power-assisted liposuction techniques. It is a
minimally invasive technique for removing localized subcutaneous fats.
The SmartLipo laser bursts the membranes of the fat cells when it comes
into contact with it. A fiber-optic laser delivers this laser under the
skin.
Length: An average of
2–3 hours per session.
Results: Most patients
can see results immediately following the SmartLipo procedure, and they
can expect their skin to return to normal within three months.
Most patients typically require only one treatment. SmartLipo can also
be used for “touch-ups” and revisions to previously treated areas.
The procedure will improve the body's shape and may reduce cellulite to
a certain degree.
Procedure: A very small
cannula (tube) approximately 1.0 mm to 2.0 mm in diameter containing a
laser fiber is inserted into the skin. The cannula is moved back and
forth delivering the laser’s energy directly to the fat cells, causing
them to rupture and easily drain away. The laser energy also interacts
with the dermis, resulting in collagen shrinkage. The laser causes small
blood vessels to coagulate immediately on contact, resulting in less
bleeding, swelling and bruising – and a quicker recovery time than
conventional liposuction.
Anesthesia:Local
Status:Outpatient
Recovery:Minor bruising and numbness
occur directly after the SmartLipo procedure, but they typically
disappear within days, if not hours, of leaving the recovery room.
Swelling will drop within a week.
Side Effects: There is
very little pain or discomfort involved. You may feel a minor stinging
sensation and an impression of tugging at your skin during the SmartLipo
treatment, but these discomforts are minimal.
