Perlane® are popular solutions towards gaining a more youthful appearance. These facial fillers are a non-animal, biodegradable gel composed of hyaluronic acid (a substance found in the body that provides more volume to the skin). Through tiny injections, Restylane® and Perlane® are FDA-approved for smoothing facial folds and wrinkles in areas around the mouth and eyes.

Length:  A few minutes to a half hour

Results:  Results can be seen immediately; the temporary effect can last up to six months (factors like age, skin type, and daily activities can influence how long results will last).

Procedure:  In tiny amounts, the doctor injects crystal-clear gel into the dermis (middle layer of skin) lifting the wrinkle into the desired correction and creating volume in an area that has a sunken or hollow look. This is an area where hyaluronic acid has decreased.

Patient Status:  Outpatient

Recovery:  During the first 48 hours after treatment, you must monitor your movements. Do not massage or rub the treated area and (if you’ve had had lip enhancement) avoid puckering your lips. Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense sunlight or extreme cold.

Side Effects:  Possible pain, redness, swelling, itching, discoloration, and tenderness at the point of injection.
