What Is Intense Pulsed Light™ Fotofacial treatment?
In Intense Pulsed Light™ fotofacial treatment, a focused beam of broad spectrum light is used to treat a variety of skin conditions, including acne scars, redness and other pigmentation problems, rosacea, and sun-damaged skin. IPL™ can also reduce the size of pores, smooth away wrinkles and fine lines, and improve skin tone and texture. Treatment may not be as effective for individuals with dark or tanned skin.
The IPL™ Fotofacial Procedure
High-energy light waves penetrate gently into the dermis, the layer of skin that lies just beneath the surface. The energy beam heats and stimulates the collagen fibers in the dermis, causing skin to regenerate and heal. A gel is used to cool the outer layer of skin during treatment to reduce discomfort. Some of our Tulsa patients experience reddening of the skin immediately after IPL™ fotofacial treatment, but this fades and results become apparent.
Three to five treatments, spaced several weeks apart, are often necessary for optimal results. While side effects are rare, when they do occur, they include bruising, swelling, changes in skin color, and blistering. These effects are usually very mild and disappear after only a short time.
