Cosmetic Surgery Aftercare: Guidelines from Face and Body Serving Tulsa, Lakeway, and Round Rock

When recovering from cosmetic surgery, laser skin care, or another medical spa treatment, it's best to follow the directions of your physician. Your set of post-surgical instructions is designed to make your recovery as quick, safe, and comfortable as possible. The staff members at Face and Body Medical Aesthetics have compiled some general guidelines for cosmetic surgery aftercare. Contact our offices, serving Lakeway, Round Rock, and Tulsa, for more information.

The Day of Your Procedure

On the day of your cosmetic surgery or procedure, it's strongly recommended that a friend or family member accompany you to your appointment. If we use anesthesia or any other pain medication, you'll need someone to assist you as the drug wears off. After the procedure, your companion can visit you in the recovery room, and drive you home when it's time to leave. Once at home, you should rest in bed, avoiding any excessive movement. Cosmetic surgery aftercare will vary by procedure; your Tulsa, Lakeway, or Round Rock physician will discuss the specifics with you during your consultation. Generally, if recovering from any procedure that involved anesthesia,  such as the VASER LipoSelection® body contouring treatment or the weekend mini facelift, your guardian should stay with you for the first night to help you eat and prepare for bed.

General Recovery Guidelines

In the days following your surgery or medical spa procedure, be sure to get plenty of rest, drink lots of liquids, and eat well-balanced meals. It is also recommended that you take any pain medication with food to avoid nausea or vomiting. We strongly recommend you avoid aspirin, alcohol, caffeine, and excessive sun exposure during this time.

If you've had a liposuction or body contouring procedure, such as Smartlipo™, your incisions will be bandaged and you'll be dressed in a compression garment. You need to wear these dressings and garments until the physician recommends you remove them. If your incision sites drain a little, don't be concerned. The staff at our location, serving Tulsa, will provide you with a cosmetic surgery aftercare kit, containing medication to clean the incisions, gauze, and additional bandages to re-dress your incision sites. If you have opted for laser skin resurfacing with the CO2 fractional laser or have undergone an IPL™ Fotofacial, you will probably need to apply special ointments or moisturizers to prevent itching, flaking, and scarring.

Returning to Your Normal Routine

As you regain your strength and return to your normal routine, be careful to not overexert yourself. We recommend avoiding strenuous activities and using caution while exercising, at least for a few weeks after your procedure. Please check with the cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist who treated you for a specific timeline.
