The Face and Body Medical Aesthetics team uses lasers to remove plenty of nuisances from the body: unwanted hair, facial wrinkles, and dimply cellulite, to name a few. And the list grows even longer, thanks to our ability to perform laser tattoo removal. We use the RevLite™ medical aesthetic laser, which is the gold standard for tattoo removal. RevLite™ works through PhotoAcoustic technology, breaking up the pigment particles in unwanted tattoos. In most cases, we can eliminate over 95 percent of the tattoo within six to eight treatment sessions, with no scars or areas of dark pigmentation. What Is Laser Tattoo Removal?
The Laser Tattoo Removal Process
Frequently Asked Questions about Laser Tattoo Removal
Laser tattoo removal with RevLite™ technology involves sending wavelengths of light through a laser beam to targeted areas of the tattoo. This light passes through the surface of the skin, and is absorbed by specific colors of ink in the tattoo. That ink breaks into tiny particles, which are absorbed by the skin and are naturally filtered out. Typically, lasers need to use different wavelengths for different colors in the tattoo; the RevLite™ laser can distribute the appropriate wavelengths for each color in the spectrum for effective tattoo removal.
Most patients will need to undergo approximately six to eight treatment sessions to see the best results. During a treatment, our medical professional aims the RevLite™ laser at small areas of the tattoo until they have all been covered. The process is not painful; the RevLite™ laser sends short pulses of light through the skin. Patients may feel sensations similar to the snap of a rubber band. The physicians at our Round Rock, Lakeway, and Tulsa locations can alleviate any discomfort during laser tattoo removal by applying an anesthetic cream. After treatment, the area will be cleaned with an ointment and dressed in bandages. Any scabs that develop should be left alone - never picked or scratched. The area may appear red or tender after treatment, but icing the area will help. It's vital to keep the area clean.
Here are some questions that our physicians, who serve Tulsa, Lakeway, and Round Rock, are frequently asked regarding laser tattoo removal:
The RevLite™ laser works on professional, amateur, surgical, and traumatic tattoos.
Yes, laser tattoo removal will remove colored ink. Dark inks (such as black, blue, and red) are the easiest to remove. Green and yellow inks are the most difficult to eliminate, and may require extra treatment sessions.
Usually laser tattoo removal requires between six and eight treatment sessions spaced about four weeks apart. However, this can vary based on the size, color, and type of ink used, as well as how deep in the skin it was applied. It's also relevant to note that with a number of types of tattoo ink available, and little FDA regulation, it's difficult to know what type of ink was used, and thus, estimate how many treatments will be needed.. Amateur tattoos are typically easier to remove.
No, the skin surrounding the tattoo will not be damaged.
