Nipple and areola reconstruction

Nipple and areola reconstructions are usually the final phase of breast reconstruction. This is a separate surgery done to make the reconstructed breast look more like the original breast. It can be done as an outpatient procedure. It’s usually done after the new breast has had time to heal (about 3 to 4 months after surgery).

Ideally, nipple and areola reconstruction matches the position, size, shape, texture, color, and projection of the new nipple to the natural one (or to the other one, if both nipples are being reconstructed). Tissue used to rebuild the nipple and areola comes from the newly created breast or, less often, from another part of your body. In some cases, doctors build up the areola and nipple area with donor skin that’s had the cells removed. If a woman wants to match the color of the nipple and areola of the other breast, tattooing may be done a few months after the surgery.

When to consider:

If you wish to have more aesthetically pleasing nipples.

If you are ready for the perfect proportions.

Breast reduction

Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a procedure to remove excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body and to alleviate the discomfort associated with overly large breasts.

Consider if you are tired of the extra breast weight:

  • Unsatisfied with size
  • Tired of extra luggage

Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation also known as augmentation mammaplasty, breast enlargement or breast implants

Breast Implant Revision

Breast revision surgery is designed to correct a botched procedure that has either created a cosmetic problem or poses a health risk. This type of procedure usually involves the removal and replacement of breast implants in order to correct a specific complication. The most common problems include capsular contracture, nipple sensitivity or loss in sensitivity, rippling, rupture, or even symptoms of immune system disorders.

Length:  1 to 3 Hours

Results:  Long-lasting; but you may want to periodically visit your doctor to make sure that your implants are not posing health risks.

Procedure:  (Your placement and incision options are similar to those associated with breast augmentation.) Depending on your preference and the doctor’s recommendation, an incision can be made in any one of the following places: the crease below the breast, around the areola, under the armpit, or, through the naval. He or she will remove the older or non-functional implants with new implants in the same area. Depending on a variety of factors, they can be placed directly under the chest muscle or directly under the breasts. Overall during breast revision surgery, your doctor should be cautious when placing the implant so that it will not have to be revised in the future.

Anesthesia:  General

Patient Status:  Outpatient

Recovery:  For a speedy and healthy recovery, it is important to carefully follow your doctor’s instructions. Your scars may be pink for several weeks, but should begin fading soon thereafter. Breasts may seem hard and unnatural during the swelling period, but will eventually resort back to a softer feel. During the first few days after breast revision surgery, you should try and keep your arm extension to a minimum (should be raised much higher than the armpit), in order to help prevent the muscle and tissue from stretching and separating. Stitches taken out: within 1 week to 10 days. Return to work: 1 to 2 weeks.

Side Effects:  Directly following surgery, you may experience exhaustion, soreness, and/or stiffness. Possibility of infection.

Breast Lift

Find the best breast lift in Tulsa at Face and Body.

A breast lift is fundamentally different from breast augmentation in that the procedure is intended to enhance, not the size, but the shape of the breasts. Breast lift surgery raises and reshapes sagging breasts, by removing excess skin and re-positioning the remaining tissue and nipples to improve its appearance. A breast lift can also reduce the size of the areola , the darker skin surrounding the nipple. If a patient’s breasts are small or have lost volume (after pregnancy), getting breast implants in conjunction with a lift can increase their firmness and size.

Length:  1 to 3 hours.

Results:  Variable. Results may enhance or last longer when breast implants are inserted as part of the procedure. The effects of gravity, pregnancy, aging, and weight fluctuation may take their toll again.

Procedure:  The procedure involves an anchor-shaped incision following the natural contour of the breast. The incision outlines the area where breast skin will be removed, defining a new location for the nipple. After excess skin is removed, the nipple and areola are moved to a higher position. The skin surrounding the areola is then brought down and together, to reshape the breast. Patients with little sagging and smaller breasts may require a less extensive incisions.

Anesthesia:  Local with Sedation, General

Patient Status:  Outpatient – Usually outpatient in the surgeon’s office. Some cases require inpatient services.

Recovery:  Back to work: 1 week or more. Strenuous activities: 1 month. Fading of scars: May take up to a year.

Side Effects:  Possible complications or reactions to anesthesia. Temporary bruising, swelling, discomfort, numbness, dry breast skin. The rare side effects of bleeding and infection can cause scars to widen. Permanent and noticeable scars.
